Accessories
Although activity in EA SPORTS Active flows exclusively through the combination of the Wii Remote and Nunchuck controllers, it also utilizes a few additional accessories to maximize the functionality of this configuration. The first of these included with the game is the controller leg strap. By attaching this to their upper thigh and then slipping the Nunchuck controller into it, players can utilize the Nunchuck controller's motion sensing capabilities while it is connected to the Wii Remote to monitor their leg movements. This allows for cardio exercises like jogging and cardio boxing and strength training activities like squats. Also included with the game is a resistance band designed to increase the intensity of a variety of exercises such as bicep curls and shoulder presses and lifts. New Combat Features: Focus Attacks and Ultra Combos

Soul Calibur III is the latest release in a great line of fighting games. The graphics are really impressive, and the character customization adds a great new dimension to fighting gameplay.

There are whole complex back-stories to all of the characters, developed over the game series. You can go into the 'museum' in this game to learn all about that, if you haven't been keeping up with the series. That will help you really understand the interactions between the characters. It's like being a part of a complex, epic story.

The graphics are simply gorgeous. There are pirate ships, where the floor moves and sways beneath you. There are elegant Chinese temples with mosaic tile floors and lovely mountains in the background. You've got renaissance mansions in flames, cages in grimy port towns, and much more. Each environment has moving elements to add to the realism.

The sounds are pretty traditional. Most of it is BASH - SMASH - YAAAAH! along with the background music, themed to match the environment. I do love this kind of background music far better than games that have rock music.

Gameplay itself has good and bad points. On the good side, there are a GREAT combinations you can learn for your character, so if you are diligent you can come up with awesome fighting sequences. You can learn which combos match well against your enemy's weaknesses and exploit them. On the other hand, if you're more the type that likes to button mash, you can have a fair amount of success with that, although you will get frustrated in the higher level battles.

The game is marked for teens, although it's far more tame than other fighting games I've seen. Many of the females *gasp* actually wear clothing. There really isn't any blood involved in the combat, although some parents argue that little tykes shouldn't see swinging swords and flails at all. There's no swearing.

That being said, the game is fairly challenging, and unlike the previous game, there's no way to set the difficulty up or down. If you play one on one you can adjust the difficulty so the younger person can have an easier time, but for regular gameplay you're stuck with "hard". I find this to be a shame. While experienced players will get along OK, it really would've been nice for new players to have an 'easy' option to go through the game in, to learn the game and have fun. They could always have upgraded through 'normal' and 'hard' later on.

With the customizeable characters and multitude of opponents, you can really replay this game for months without getting bored with it. There are always new combinations to learn and perfect. Well recommended!

A bold statement, but true in every sense of the word. The Year of the Fighter has started off with a big bang with the home release of Sega's Virtua Fighter 4. With a new Mortal Kombat game on the horizon, not to mention Tekken 4 and Soul Calibur 2, fighting fans have a lot to look forward to in 2002. However, the race may already be over - VF4's competitors have a gigantic mountain to climb.

Graphically, VF4 is a masterpiece. You won't see any multi-tiered environments a la DOA or flashy effects like Soul Calibur. The Virtua Fighter series has always been grounded in reality, and the newest incarnation is the most realistic fighter yet. The characters are modelled with compelling accuracy and astounding, lifelike animation (no fireball casting here) - clothing wraps around limbs, flaps in the wind, and flows with breathtaking movement. The arenas are spectacular creations: Pai fights in an underwater aquarium with sea life swimming outside its glass walls, and Jacky battles on the roof of a skyscraper with several circling helicopters creating some amazing lighting effects. You might find sand or snow underfoot, or be knee-deep in water. You'll be in a cage surrounded by a shouting crowd. You'll see leaves softly falling, or birds overhead. These are perfect places in which to battle. Most of the arenas contain incredible animation, and although they don't really affect the gameplay, they make the fights that much more involving. Walls can be broken in some places, and ring-outs happen, but not as often as in Soul Calibur. The dreaded PS2 "jaggies" are present, but they're only noticeable if you're looking for them. The combination of realistic fighter animation and beautiful environments make VF4 the current best-looking home fighter.

As amazing as it looks, however, the gameplay of VF4 is what vaults it into Soul Calibur territory. The controls consist of three buttons: punch, kick, and guard; and the d-pad. That's it. The PS2 controller allows you to map button combinations to a single key (i.e. P+K+G = R2) if you so desire, which can make pulling off more complicated moves easier for beginners. Each character has literally hundreds of individual moves at his or her disposal; throws, reversals, rising attacks, combos, etc. There are only 13 fighters, but they are all perfectly balanced, and each is very different from the other. Lei-Fei is a Chinese monk who features several stances; Kage is a ninja who sports airborne throws; Lion uses Mantis Fist style; Wolf is a pro wrestler. Button mashing won't get you far against a VF master or the higher difficulty CPU settings. You're required to explore your fighter's capabilities, using strategy for victory. It may seem overwhelming at first, but the game's perfect control makes maneuvering your fighter second nature after a few matches. The Virtua Fighter system is deceptively simple, and as you get used to the timing of a side-step followed by a vicious counterattack, a perfect reversal of an incoming combo, and throwing, you'll discover how much attention Sega paid to it. Unlike past VF games, beginners can get the jist pretty quickly, but the artistry of the fighting engine becomes more apparent over time, and rewards the patient.

VF4 features several modes. Arcade mode pits you against all 13 fighters with progressing AI difficulty, and Vs. is for multiplayer. Pretty standard stuff, although there's nothing quite like a human vs. human VF match. Its replayability is infinite, and it works best when the two combatants are of relatively equal skill levels, making fights a match of wits as much a match of reflexes.

One new addition is Kumite Mode, a tournament of sorts. Pick a character, and fight an unending stream of CPU opponents, progressing in rank along the way. The better you do, the harder the enemies. Perform well, and you unlock customizable items like sunglasses, jewelry, and headgear. It's like a souped-up Survival Mode, and is highly addicting. You can eventually take each fighter through the entire Kumite Mode - a daunting task that will take many, many hours to complete. The higher difficulty levels are brutal, and require mastery of your character.

Training Mode is a fantastic creation. It's split into three sections, one of which allows you to practice combos to get your timing down. The second lets you practice against a CPU dummy, which can be set at several difficulty levels. You can even program the dummy to perform a specific combo to practice countering or evasive tactics. The third section contains different challenges that teach you the basics of the VF universe. This mode is highly recommended for beginners, as it teaches the skills necessary for success. It also gives you a glimpse at how deep and refined the VF engine is, like peeling back a layer to find many more underneath.

AI Mode allows you to train a "blank slate" fighter yourself, and set it lose against your friends or even in Kumite Mode. It's a novel idea, but isn't quite as compelling as the other modes. Still fun to play around with, though.

Virtua Fighter is a more involved, strategic game than, say, the Marvel vs. Capcom series. It relies on technique rather than flash, in both gameplay and visuals. It's been made more accessible for newcomers (after all, this is the first time a VF game has appeared on a non-Sega console), but still retains the complexity of previous installments. VF4 is a labor of love. In comparison to Soul Calibur, the extras and flashiness of SC are balanced out by VF's incredible fighting system and Kumite Mode. Some may argue that DOA3 is prettier, but Tecmo's series doesn't come close to the sim aspects of Virtua Fighter. Sega has drawn first blood in Year of the Fighter, and it currently sits beside Soul Calibur as the best fighting game available.

Just when you think you have Rockstar Games and their legendary Grand Theft Auto series figured out, they pitch you one heck of a curve. Speaking as a guy who spent so much time running amok in Vice City and San Andreas that I practically had to file tax returns there, I have been consistently surprised by the depth of play in GTA IV. Yes, it's true that the character modeling and some of the action moves are a little choppy, but most of the game looks great. Far more interesting, however, is the fact that this is not a video game per se - it borders on an interactive movie. The crime and violence in fuzzy-lit, pastel colored Vice City is practically cartoonish compared to the gritty reality of life in Liberty City in GTA IV. You're not just a thug with a bat trying to decide which car to lift, you're an immigrant with plenty of emotional baggage, forced into a series of moral quandries the outcomes of which carry implications throughout the entire game. Things you do even turn up later on the in-game radio stations!

Every generation of game console, some game is proclaimed the next coming, be it of graphics, or gameplay, or some other measurable category. GTA IV is different. You can wallow in the muck of street violence and prostitution as always, but there's a deeper moral play going on that feels unlike anything else I've encountered not only in GTA, but in video games in general. Rockstar Games may have finally located that most ephemeral of experiences - one equal parts game and cinema, without belonging entirely to either. It's going to be interesting to see how many critics and politicians seize on only the overt, adult content, without grasping how far more creative and artistic this "game" is than your average deadening FPS or racing game. Rockstar Games is to be commended for what truly deserves to be called "genius."

Metal Gear Solid 4

well picked this up earlier today, and have not being able to put it down!! i am a huge MGS fan so i know alot about these games and you can trust me when i say this one is by FAR! the best!!
everything from the game play, wicked baddies, the sound effects and graphics (amazing at 720p - not 1080p)! breath taking, heart pumping cut scenes that REALLY make you think that you are inside a movie! MGS has always been very theatrical , but with how advanced this game is visually you almost can believe you are directing your own action movie! Hideo and his bois at Konami have out done themselves again!
Same voice cast holds up fantastic again, MGS has always had a great english voice cast (i dont care what anyone says)! David Hayter adds a few years to his voice which suits Old Snake very well!! Didnt have to wait very long for Snake to say my fav MGS line thats in all games, "Metal Gear..?"
All the new gadets in this game are fantastic, Drebin's shop is a handy welcome to the series, taking a leaf outta Resi4 with collecting weapons and other pieces of gear to buy new imp weapons and ammo!! Great touch!
will not spoil plot details or anything coz if your like me and you play this for the story side too you will no doubt be on the edge of your seat with a great story! action packed cut scenes to get the blood pumpin as you get thrust into the heat of some very big Skirmishes!
i dont see or can beilieve this game can have any haters!! it is a must for both old time fans to one of the greatest games ever made! and for new fans lookin to get into the series!!

Marvel vs. Capcom 2

This has got to be the most busy fighting game to date. Fireballs seem to be getting bigger in each Capcom game. They used to be only tiny bubbles. Now they can take up half the screen. You really don't need to be a great gamer to do well in this game. Just know how to do a simple HA-DO-KEN and you're set. This game is stripped of any storyline. You play the game to fight. Not because you care about any of the characters personal lives. Capcom could have at least put in the classic taunts after battles end. They really seem to have gotten lazy with their 2D fighters. Just take a bunch of characters from previous games, throw them together and slap a new title on it to fool people into thinking it's a new game. It is a rather good game though. It's loaded with characters and most are hidden so you have to play a lot to unlock them all. Unless you're a cheater and gain points other ways. One low point in this game is the graphics. The backgrounds are amazing but the actual characters look terrible. Especially the larger ones. Capcom couldn't take the time to clean up the pixels? I really hope their next 2D fighter has more depth, storyline, and less flashy fireballs and more hand to hand combat.

Volume 2!! This is another awesome collection of games from the golden era of arcade! Many games here were made for NES and SNES, but now we get REAL arcade versions!

Each game looks wonderful and comes with history info, unlockable art, tips, cast, and music. You can adjust the screen, difficulty, etc.... Progress can be saved anytime during gameplay. Multiple players can play the shooter and brawler games together for more fun. These games really test your reflexes. Most games have beautiful graphics. The game designers' vivid imagination shines. I hope Capcom will make a volume 3 with Dark Stalkers.

Here are the machines:

1941:Counter Attack. A vertical shooter. You shoot up German WW2 planes, ships, vehicles, etc... Good game.

Avengers: A vertical brawler. Average game.

Black Tiger: A horizontal platformer similar to Ghosts 'n Goblins series. Medieval setting. Good game.

Block Block: A ping-pong game similar to Arcanoid(not sure of the spelling). Good game.

Captain Commando: A horizontal brawler similar to Streets of Rage, Golden Axe and Final Fight. You can pick up cool guns, operate robots(similar to riding on beasts from Golden Axe). Enemy design could be better. Good game.

Eco Fighter: A zany horizontal shooter. Control is similar to Forgotten Worlds. Nice graphics. I think this game was never released in U.S. arcades because it speaks Japanese. Great game.

The King of Dragons: A horizontal brawler with mediveal setting. Some RPG elements because you level up various statistics. Bigger and better weapons/armors are acquired as you progress. Nice graphics. Great game.

Knights of The Round: A mediveal horizontal brawler. Bigger and better weapons/armors are acquired as you progress. Nice graphics. Great game.

Last Duel: A futuristic shooter. Decent game.

Magic Sword: A simple medieval horizontal brawler. You unlock jail doors to recruit fellow fighters that act like satellite. Good game.

Mega Twins: A cute cartoon horizontal platformer. I think this was never released in U.S. arcades. Great game.

Quiz & Dragons: A trivia game. Good game.

Side Arms: Hyper Dyne. A futuristic horizontal shooter. You control a jet pack wearing hero then combine with another jet suit for more cool fire power. Average game.

Street Fighter: The original fighter game. The original arcade machine have 2 big 'power' sensitive buttons, the hitting strength determined heavy, medium or light attack. You literally get a work-out playing this game. Funky control with cheesy yet funny voice actor. Good game.

Strider: A futuristic horizontal platformer. You control a futuristic Ninja with sword slash attack. Awesome graphics. Cool design. There are various spoken languages between levels, including Japanese, Russian and Chinese. I played this game on Genesis but Genesis version didn't have voice-overs, so the arcade version in this Capcom Classics Collection V2 is truly great. Superb game.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo: A fighter game. Similar to earlier Street Fighter II games with more characters like Cammy, Fei Long, T.Hawk, and Dee Jay. There is NO loading time between matches. Superb game.

The Speed Rumbler: A top-view driving shooter. You control a land vehicle. Horrible game.

Three Wonders: Its actually 3 games in one. Platform, shooter, and puzzle. The puzzle game is similar to Pengo, you push blocks to crush enemies. The horizontal platform and shooter games are great, the puzzle one decent.

Tiger Road: A horizontal brawler similar to Trojan. Medieval Far-East setting. Good game.

Varth: A futuristic vertical shooter. Good game.

This is a must buy for all REAL gamers. Old school gamers will absolutely love it. Thanks Capcom for making this game!

Capcom Classics Collection

This is an awesome collection of games. All together this 'game' or collection is perhaps the best game for current generation consoles IMO. Go ahead and laugh! This is because most modern games are not fun and lack gameplay. The only awesome game I've played from current generation consoles is Ninja Gaiden.

These are REAL games from the GOLDEN ERA of ARCADE. IMO some of these old games should be made modern! Imagine Forgotten Worlds in full intense 3-D spectular mayhem fashion on Xbox 360 and PS3. However 3-D can really kill games, this is evident in many remakes such as Castlevania LOI. IMO current generation consoles are not all that and playing 3-D games on a single TV screen just isn't all that. Im waiting for hologram consoles.

Looking at the preview screen shots gave me the impression that some games are console version from NES, SNES, etc... However Im glad to report that the games are arcade versions. Each game looks wonderful and comes with history info, unlockable art, tips, cast, and music. You can adjust the screen, difficulty, etc.... These games really test your reflexes.

Here are the arcade machines:

1942, 1943, and 1943 Kai. A vertical shooter. You shoot up Japanese WW2 planes, ships, etc... Great game(s).

Bionic Commando: A horizontal platformer. You swing across trees and kill enemies. So so game.

Commando: A popular vertical shooter. You are a charging marine. Great game.

Exed Exes: One of many excess shooters found in this collection. Okay game.

Final Fight: A super popular horizontal brawler. Great game. Similar to Streets of Rage.

Forgotten Worlds: A horizontal shooter. Futuristic, ancient and zany. Awesome background theme and graphic. You can buy weapons from a pretty blonde chick too. Superb game.

Ghosts 'n Goblins: A horizontal platformer. Cool medieval theme and monster design. Great game. BTW Recently I checked out an original Ghosts 'n Goblins arcade machine at an old pier amusement place, its made by Taito, lol and the graphic is hideous compare to the Capcom version on this disc.

Ghouls 'n Ghosts: A later version of the former. Great game.

Gun.Smoke: A vertical shooter. You are a cowboy in the old wild wild west. Great game. Excellent new button system.

Legendary Wings: A mythological vertical shooter. You have flying wings, cool Greek setting. Great game.

Mercs: Similar to Commando. Okay game.

Pirate Ship Higemaru: I never seen this at arcades. Horrible game.

Section Z: A futuristic horizontal shooter with 'metroidish' levels. Good game.

Son Son: A horizontal half platform half shooter. Simple but decent game.

Street Fighter II, SFII Champion Edition, and SFII Hyper Fighting: Biggest game ever from Capcom. Great fighter game. There is a two to three seconds of loading time between matches, its rather annoying.

Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts: Third game of the series. Insane difficulty just like last two. Great game.

Trojan: Horizontal brawler. Metro ghetto setting. Great game.

Vulgus: Another vertical futuristic shooter. So so game.

Overall this is a MUST BUY for all REAL gamers. I urge younger generation games to give this a try. Thanks a zillion Capcom for making this game!

Baldur's Gate 2: Ultimate Collection (Shadows of Amn and Throne of Bhaal)

Its graphics may be a bit dated (they were even when the game came out) but if you can look beyond that, this is one seriously awesome collection. Baldur's Gate 2 has incredible RPG depth, a strong tactical aspect, and great replay value. The expansion is bigger than most, and adds significant epic-level capabilities for your characters.

The game picks up several years after the events in Baldur's Gate, and continues the plot. If you didn't play that first game (a shame- go get it) there are a few quick recaps of the key points. You can play in single play mode, in which case you make your one main character (or import from Baldur's Gate); multiplay with just you, in which you can make your whole party; or multiplay with friends, in which everyone can make and control one or more characters. In any case, your party has up to six people at a time, and you can dismiss or add characters at will.

Add to this a whole lot of classes, including special 'kits' that are akin to 3rd edition prestige classes (save that you can take them immediately) and you have a whole lot of room for party customization. There's a host of NPCs that can join your party, some better than others, but all very interesting and with unique (sometimes very extensive) side quests. You can have romantic relationships with some of these potential party members, and some will even have romances with other NPCs.

Almost all of the dialogue in the game is spoken, and although there's not much full motion video, when there is it's well done. The plot advances through chapters, and there are numerous side quests that take you to many varied game world locations. The rewards for some of these quests are awesome, and some of the monsters you'll run into are equally so. This is where the tactics come in- your party composition is crucial for winning these big fights. For example, dealing with that red dragon is going to be exceedingly difficult without some protection from fire and fear effects. There are also many ways to solve the various problems you run into. For example, a thief laying some traps in a doorway can turn a tough band of charging enemies into so much cannon fodder. Then again, if you don't have a thief or aren't a very subtle type, you can just fireball the lot of them and clean up what's left with a good old-fashioned sword charge.

The good thing about these games is you can start at any game and not feel like youve missed anything. Nancy Drew and The Phantom of Venice was a great game. I have to say out of the 18 games there are this one is in my top 5.The Story line is very exciting. An elusive phantom is stealing from Venice. He wears a mask and no one can seem to figure out who he (or she!) is! so thats why the police of Venice call on YOU as Nancy Drew to crack the case. Your undercover and ready to uncover all the secrets Venice has to offer. The characters are fun to talk to, the music is new and goes right along with the Venice theme, the puzzles and games are a challenge and the graphics have progressed so much in the last few games. If you cant wait for the game after this one there is a teaser about the next game after you finish this one...But im not going to tell you what it is! Thats something your have to sleuth out on your own!

One of the three games in Valve's "Orange Box" package, Team Fortress 2 is a long-awaited sequel (announced in 1998) to the original "Team Fortress Classic" mod for Half-Life 1. Despite the abhorrently long delay, this game is worth every second of development.

Team Fortress was one of the first big games to use classes, each with their own weapons and specialty. Following either a Capture The Flag or a Control Point objective type, players combined the unique abilities of each class to capture their objectives. TF2 has kept this basic premise, and added a wicked, madcap sense of humor and colorful stylistic choices to it.

There are 9 classes in the game each given their own weapons (including a unique melee weapon), abilities, and personalities. First is the scout, who is the fast character who is meant to rush in, get the flag, and get out. In TF2, the Scout has a smart mouth and constantly wisecracks as he downs foes with one of his three weapons - a shotgun, a pistol, and an aluminum bat. The Soldier is next - a grunt armed with a rocket launcher, a shotgun, a shovel, and a military drawl. The soldier can "rocket jump" by firing at his feet, which injures him but launches him far upwards. The Pyro is armed, as one might guess, with a flamethrower (as well as a shotgun and a fire axe) and is the game's least comprehensible character - muffled as he is by his flame-retardant suit and mask. The Pyro is meant to ambush characters, due to the flamethrower's short range, but if he can get in close and start spraying fire and setting enemies ablaze, the kills just rack up.

The Demoman is a bit of a quandary - a self-described "black Scottish cyclops", he is equipped with two grenade launchers (one that launches regular grenades, one that launches remote-detonated "sticky" grenades that can be used as deterrents for enemies proceeding carelessly through doors) and an empty bottle as a melee weapon. The Heavy is perhaps the game's most recognizable character - a huge, Russian man armed with a minigun. Gameplay for the Heavy consists of firing or winding up the character's huge weapon, or on occasion using his backup shotgun or his mighty fists. The Engineer is one of the more intellect-oriented classes in the game; not adept at physical combat, the Engineer prefers to build gadgets to help his team. The devices that can be built are a sentry gun (an automatically firing turret that can be upgraded to three different levels of weaponry), a dispenser (which gives health and ammo), and a teleporter. All of the engineer's devices require metal to build or upgrade, which is gained by collecting ammo from fallen enemies. The Engineer's personality is laid-back, with a southern drawl more relaxed than the Soldier's.

The Medic is the main support unit for any team - with the use of his healing Medigun, the Medic is responsible for keeping his team alive. Furthermore, after healing enough, the Medic can use his Ubercharge ability to render himself and a target invulnerable for roughly ten seconds. The Medic has a German accent, perhaps a nod to the stereotypical Mad Doctor. Snipers are Australian Bush Rangers armed with high-powered rifles. These rifles charge up their power, but only when zoomed in; this encourages snipers to wait and time their shots, rather than using the sniper rifle as a really accurate close-combat weapon (as seen in Counter-Strike). Requiring reflexes and accuracy, the Sniper is a highly specialized class, and every map has windows looking out over a large battleground for the Sniper to fully use his abilities. Finally, the Spy is perhaps the most complex class. Capable of taking the appearance of an enemy unit (to allies, he appears to be wearing a paper mask with the target class' face drawn on it), the Spy must try his best to infiltrate the enemy and take them out - through backstabbing, sappers (which disable engineer tools), and good old-fashioned misdirection. As a backup, Spies can cloak themselves, useful for infiltrating and exiting the enemy base. While Spies cannot be easily detected, certain suspicious behaviors can be noted and so a Spy must try his best to blend in - for example, not charging the enemy base from his own base, where no regular soldier would be doing so.

These nine classes form the wildest, most madcap First Person Shooter in recent history. Set on six different stages (the development team states in the in-game commentary that more were considered, but playtesters noted that players usually only play maps that they really like over and over, for example De_Dust in Counter-Strike) with a Mad Scientist theme, players join either the BLU (Builder's League United) or RED (Reliable Excavation Demolition) teams. Both sides are fronts for secret corporations, and the maps revolve around capturing secret data (the equivalent of CTF) or important secret bases housing nuclear weapons or laser beams (the Control Point game type).

The graphics are the most noticable and unique new feature to the game. Using a cartoonish style and shading/lighting type, the characters and maps are designed to let the characters stand out and be identifiable by their color, class, and weapon (in that order). The result is fantastic - TF2's style is possibly the best use of a cartoonish style in a video game that I have seen. Each character is vibrantly alive and unique, a fact further fleshed out by their in-game taunts and sounds (many taunts activate automatically when certain conditions are met - for example, if a Scout kills a Heavy with his bat, there's a sound clip for that). A far cry from the mostly silent and serious setting of Team Fortress Classic, TF2 embraces the ridiculousness and outlandishness present in its gameplay, making light of combatants rushing headlong into their death (when killed, you get a screenshot of your killer, complete with arrows marking your body and, if you were killed by something explosive, any little parts that are nearby).

As a whole, this game is a blast. Its frantic gameplay, hilarious voice acting, and strategic simplicity make this a game for almost anyone to enjoy. There's nothing to dislike about this game - even the small map selection doesn't seem to matter because of how involved one becomes with the strategy used in each. This game is brilliant.

This game has incredible graphics, much better than the Xbox 360 version (especially with DX10 and a good graphics card). I can play in 1600x1200 with all the bells and whistles and antialiasing turned up and i average around 100fps on my 9800GX2 and OC'd Q9450.

Gameplay is fast and exciting, with areas designed for a very immersive, cinematic quality. If you like "twitch" games with lots of blod and gore, you'll absolutely love this game. The difficulty seems pretty easy on easy and sufficiently hard on hard. I have had no technical problems at all, nor have I seen any glitches or bugs.

The voice acting is good but not great, storyline seems like what we've come to expect with this series which is pretty good. Boss battles are simply epic, using incredibly stylish means to defeat your demonic foes.

I highly suggest you take a look at the minimum requirements for this game, as another reviewer made the mistake of buying this game for his woefully inadequate machine. People seem to think that as long as they purchased their computer in the last year, it should be able to run any and every game out there. What they fail to understand is that new games generally require GAMING HARDWARE, which is not in any way the "standard" with $500 Gateway or Dell systems. Those are generally geared towards office applications and web browsing.

I can't say enough good things about the graphics, I'm really impressed. Due to the art I think I like it better than Crysis and COD4 combined, graphics wise. The style and technology fuse together to create a true piece of digital art.

In this game you play the role of Ryu Hayabusa,a master ninja who recently has been appearing in the Dead or Alive series of games. As Ryu, you must recover the Dark Dragon Sword. Ok, well the story is not so great, but you don't play games for the story anyway. First of all, this is just beautiful. This is definitely one of the best looking games I have ever seen. As for the gameplay, I don't find the combat to be too difficult. Actually, I think the combat system is very good. You just have to remember to play it like a fighting game rather than like an action game. You have to block a lot more than is typical in action games. Once you adjust to this point the combat isn't difficult. Actually the difficult thing in this game is when it tries to be Super Mario and makes you jump around on a bunch of platforms. The reason this is frustrating is that the camera is really quirky and it's very difficult to line up jumps correctly, so you spend a lot of time trying the same jumps over and over again. This is the reason I give this four stars instead of five. If they take out the Super Mario, then I'll give it five. Also, it would be nice if they put the save points closer to the bosses. As it is, you have to play through a few minutes before you reach the boss, so if you fail to beat the boss, then you have to go through those few minutes again before you can face the boss again. Basically, I just ran past any enemies that I could to save time. Well, other than these minor problems, it's a super game. Check it out.

Resident Evil 4

The game has an amazing storyline and presentation. Tremendous voice acting actually for a video game, not grammy material, but good for Resident Evil to boot, and great cinematic sequences during your disgusting journey!! The sound is 1st rate too, I was hoping for a little more music accompanying my walks through the game, but for the stuff that does occur during certain situations, it's all good. The sound of a shotgun blast taking down 8 sickos is pleasing to your ears, believe me! Crank this baby up.

Games made specifically for the Cube has kept the system afloat since it was released. Sure it's 3rd place next to the powerful XBOX and almighty Playstation 2, but Gamecube survives on games that are made specifically for the system. Capcom and Nintendo are the big makers and seem to always churn out quality stuff. As with most Nintendo titles, this game is worth playing, and if you don't own the system yet, you might consider for Resident Evil 4 alone, it really is that good. This is the type of game that is so good, you'll want to play over and over. Could be a "game of the year contender" without question.

Grand Theft Auto IV

GTA IV is worth the hype in my book. It is similar to the other games in the series (not a bad thing), but the graphics are much improved and the acting/storyline are outstanding. The missions are fun, but if you get bored you can always grab a shotgun and raise hell at any moment. This game just feels big. I remember driving my car off the bridge into the water, crawling out the window, swimming around and just staring in awe at the night sky with the city glowing in the background. Just an all around amazing experience.

First of all, don't sit here and rate a game as crap if it freezes. That has nothing to do with the gameplay and could simply be a bad PS2 or a corrupted disc. As for the gameplay part, this game is a much better version than the competitor March Madness 2004. The Legacy mode in this game is far and away better than EA Sports Dynasty Mode. I swear by this. Head to Head it's much better. Now that we have that taken care of, the actual graphics are better than March Madness 2004 as well. The arenas incredibly model to what they should be. They have even the smaller schools like Maine down nearly perfectly. The gameplay is smooth with no choppiness like March Madness. The only thing that is a negative is like what the other guy said about the players not dunking it when they are directly under the hoop. The good ones will though and if you are going towards the hoop with turbo they will dunk it or make an impressive lay in. And for all you people that think this game sucks, your all idiots and go waste your money on EA Sports overrated version.

Hockey is to complicated and requires too much skill to make into a flawless video game. So those of you out there looking for the PERFECT hockey sim on a game system, forget it!!! It will never happen!! ESPN Hockey is the closest you will get. The graphics are better Than EA Sports(as always!)and the game play is superb! I will admit it seems that your team mates(controlled by the computer) tend to just stand there and look at the puck. But I found that changing the strategy makes a big difference! Control of the players is smooth and easy to master. The "deek" feature added this year makes breaking in on the goalie a bit more exciting. You will find that scoring is not easy, but just like in real hockey, if you plan, create room and have patience, you will score. As far as one timers, when done at the right time, the back of the net will be found. Rob Blake(for me) has scored several one timers from the blue line. It is not easy, but can be done. The extras of the game are good. There is so much that I won't get into it. Just know that they are great and add to the game. Commentary is good. If you play the game all the time, everyday, it can become annoying like anything else would. If you owned NHL2K3 and thought it was good, you are in for a surprise. There are alot of excellent changes making it worth the money!! If you are one of those still wasting your money on the EA Sports NHL Franchise, STOP WASTING YOUR MONEY!!! Just as ESPN NFL 2K5 made a huge splash with its big game play and small price, now NBA 2K5 is doing the same for basketball. While essentially the same as last year's version there are some marked improvements.

The offensive and defensive A.I. issmarter and much more realistic. On defense, for example, you'll notice that defenders away from the ball are watching the ball handler like real players do and positioning themselves to guard the passing lanes. The improved smarts make some cool gameplay nuances possible, like forcing a driving player to change his shot in the air by making an aggressive defensive move at him.

The animations and models are all improved over last years making an already great looking game look even better and one of its advantages over NBA Live. There are a number of improved and added movesets for both post-up and perimeter players that add further to the realism.

There are also some interesting coaching strategies you can use such as both positive and negative reinforcement, training, etc...there's even a fair amount of psychology involved.

While NBA 2K5 may not quite have the overall depth to franchise modes that NBA live does, it's great look and gameplay makes up for it. And at $20 bucks, and often seen on sale for $15 bucks this is one bargain you can't pass up.

First, the price alone is amazing. Video game technology is cheap now so the $50 price tag should be removed from all games. Back to 2K5, The graphics are the best ever seen on an NHL game. The improvement over last years version is incrediable! Commentary is much better. Yes, still repetitive sometimes, but alot more different comments and play-by-play announcing. The crowd even reacts to the action on the ice. Ring a shot off the post at home or not your opponent on his ass you will see what I mean about the crowd reaction! The controls have improved beyond expectations. You know literally control your every move. There are more extras than I have time to describe. But the table ice hockey is great. But the Franchise mode is the best improvement. It is more indepth and you can scout and control your minor league team as well. Everyone complains about the "freezing up" I have not had it happen to me. I am in the month of March of the franchise. But that does not mean there is not a problem. I just have not experienced it.
But the best part is playing on Xbox Live! It opens an all new realm to hockey.
The difficulty levels have improved this year as well. I dominated on All-Star level on 2k4 winnig games 20-2. This year, Pro is not easy. Yes, I have won games 10-2, but those types of games happen in real hockey as well. So I know that All-Star and Hall of Famer will not be easy.
Again, Sega smashes EA Sports when it comes to hockey. This game is a must for hockey fans who want a sim hockey game. If you want arcade type action and game play, go with EA Sports or NHL Riv

Amazing graphics. Accurate player faces for EVERY SINGLE player in the league! The graphics blow Live away it's not even funny. The control also feels less frantic and more precise than Live, and the ISOmotion control, while clearly ripped off from Live's Freestyle, works pretty well. The 24/7 mode, which allows you to build a baller and play a variety of mini games and contests, is fun and addictive. It's not perfect, as some of the objectives are frustrating or boring, but it's a neat innovation that some lesser companies would sell as a separate game! The depth of customization is amazing, especially in terms of gameplay sliders, meaning the game can be as arcady or realistic as you like. The passing is much improved, and the commentary is decent. Tons of unlockables (teams, gear, courts) make this game addictive as well! Overall, a great game.

ESPN International Winter Sports 2002

While the luge and speed skating portions of this game leave something to be desired, and the graphics and sound are "ok," the game play on the rest of the games is very enjoyable. Addictive would be a better word. The ski jumping and alpine ski are especially fun, while the halfpipe and figure skating are extremely challenging. My only complaint is there isn't a way to turn off the background music, other than that, if you're an armchair ski jumper, you'll enjoy this game.

Awesome graphics and smooth gameplay make this a great game however there is not enough events and a lack of options which could make this game get old fast. There is only Chamionship or exhibition mode to choose from.
Not all events use button mashing: Trap shooting is played just like Duck Hunt except you shoot flying discs instead of ducks, Rythmic Gymnastics is just like Dance Dance Revolution and Horizontal Bar just takes good timing.
The best part of any track & field game is getting a couple of your friends to race against and this game is no exception.
Even with its obvious flaws I can still play this game everyday and still have fun.

You can choose from the following events:
100m, 110m Hurdles, Long Jump, Pole Vault, Weightlifting, 100m Freestyle Swimming, Javelin, Trap Shooting, Horizontal Bar, and Rhythmic Gymnastics.

This game is a lot of fun and creates a great simulation of the college game. The graphics are incredible; it's like watching a real game. The players move like real people, too; it isn't as cartoonish as the games from just a couple years ago. I'm not sure why this game hasn't gotten any more buzz, but it is a top-notch title at a discount price. Sega Sports/ESPN has released a cadre of great games this year, and this is another winner. Get it. You won't regret it.

The whole game's presented in Dolby Digital 5.1, if you've got the hardware to handle it, and sounds really superb pumped all the way up. The sounds of creaking pads, grunts, groans and shuffling feet are perfect, especially in first person mode, where they're coming from all around you, and the sound system is pumpin' when the music kicks in between plays.Custom soundtracks are supported in this title, and they're quite a bit of fun to select, crop, implement and enjoy. My only complaint in this area is that the crowd noise doesn't reflect that of a live pro football crowd. A successfully rowdy audience would've put the Surround Sound over the top, and quite possibly gone a ways toward amending the errors elsewhere in the game. Instead, we get ho hum cheers after a big play that quickly die away, a lot of white "mulling audience" noise and a noticeable lack of loud "DEE-FENSE" chants.

Sega and Visual Concepts were on the right track with this one, packing as much quality as they could into one disc, and it's painful to realize just how close to undeniable perfection they really were without realizing it in the end. With a few tweaks to the online mode, another couple of weeks in testing and a few very minor changes, this could have been more than just a twenty dollar discount title. It could've ranked among the greatest of all time, with a price that will never be beaten, but it got shot out to market too soon and the whole picture suffered as a result. Still a very fine game, and if you can live with a couple glitches it's absolutely worth a second look.

Consider...ESPN Winter Sports 2002 will have more events than Eidos' Salt Lake 2002 (10 vs. 6), and a better VARIETY of events (downhill, slalom, 4-man bobsled, snowboarding (halfpipe), 90 and 120m ski-jumping, freestyle moguls, 500m speedskating, ladies' figure skating and men's curling) vs. SLC 2002's multiple variations on skiing (men's downhill, women's slalom, men's snowboard parallel GS, women's freestyle aerials, 120m ski jumping and 2-man bobsled). It has only 2 game modes vs. SLC 2002's four, and the lack of a create-a-player feature will hurt, but I think this will be the better game. Konami's forays into the PS2 sports videogame realm have been hit and miss, mostly miss, with the exception of MLS Extra Time, the best soccer title of the 2000-01 season. Sure, SLC 2002 will have the actual venues of the Winter Games, but if you had a choice between seeing the venues and playing a diverse series of competitions, what would you buy?

It's a very simple game and offers very little. You have about 8 events in which to compete and a practice mode. What disappointed me about many of the events is the limited control you have over your athlete. For half-pipe snowboarding, you could only select between a very limited number of moves and then needed to rapidly hit a key combination in order to execute it successfully (and you lost points if you did not select the designated move that was flashing on the screen). I would rather have full control of the moves like in Amp for instance. Figureskating was even worse; you had no control whatsoever of the movements, instead having to quickly hit key combos that determine the performance and score of your skater, not which moves are executed. The CPU opponents were very difficult to beat. Most of the time, I would get 8th place even after hours of practicing (I'm no novice by the way, I do this for a living). There is no difficulty level either! The controls are very confusing and too steep of a learning curve. Each event had differing controls and for most of the events, the control scheme seemed more complex than needed. I personally would find it much easier to have the controls streamlined for each event, though some players might like the control variety. Keep in mind that in order to succeed in a few of the events, you had to rapidly hit A & B. Fans of the ancient arcade game, track & field might love this, but for me (maybe i'm too old), this only leads to sore fingers & quickly worn out controls. I would have liked more character background and a career mode with attributes that you can improve. Instead, you select generic characters with no background. The in-game music is pretty limited and a letdown as well. One positive thing about the game is that the graphics are really impressive and smooth with quick loading times. There are some reasons to get Madden over this, if you can only afford one game. The first is the college drafting from Madden to NCAA (but if you can only get one game, then you can't afford NCAA 2004, too, so go with Sega). The other is the owner mode in Madden. It's just not as deep here. Also, the gameplay--out of first person--is still a little ragged. The stadiums and player models look gorgeous compared to Madden, but the players' movements are a little jumpy. But if you can afford both games, and if you're a football fan or ex-player, trust me, you have to be able to afford both, go for it. You cannot afford to not at least rent this baby. It's amazing.

The game comes with a nice football dictionary and guide in-game. The in-game handbook teaches football newbies the strength and weaknesses of all the formations, and explains all the complex football terms that you might PRETEND to know in front of your friends. This lets players who might not be experts of the game choose plays more successfully, especially on defense. In addition, for the first time I've ever seen in a football game, the game allows the defense to see what kind of formation the offense puts up before they choose their play. This is invaluable, because after all, that's how defense is played. And if you're too lazy to read the handbook or choose your plays, there's a (usually) very intelligent "Coach's Pick" that lets the computer suggest a play for you. Great stuff.

This game is by far better then NHL. This game is faster pace and has better camera views. The mini games are fun and the graphics are just merely ok. The gameplay is way better then NHL and twice as fun. The only thing NHL has going for it is good graphics. Yes ESPN does feel like it should of been better with it's glitches there and here. The fighting is a little bit stale and freezes up before the fight starts. Besides that though you would just keep playing the game to unlock all the goodies and playing all the mini games with your friends. The game is only $20.00 which is $30.00 dollars less then NHL and is better. I'm going to say the same thing that I did with ESPN NBA basketball. If you didn't like last years you won't like this years and if you liked last years buy this years right now. NHL 2004 I thought was better then 2005. So you EA sports fans may be dissapointed with EA but I don't think ESPN would be your hockey choice if you haven't liked there past titles. And for the people out there that hate both of these hockey games you can look foward to 989 sports new hockey game Wayne Grextky hockey. Ha thats going to be the biggest joke.

The biggest complaint about EA's FIFA franchise has been the absymal controls. Well, thanks to the Wii, those days are long over. Tricks and skills involve simple flicks of the controls instead of complicated late 80s Street Fighter type moves, and furthermore, things are no longer based on the perspective of the player in-game. Swinging the remote to the right ALWAYS means right, regardless of player facing or camera angle. Though Wii controls can be intimidating to those of us raised on control pads, everything is intuitive. Plus, FIFA 08 includes a nice tutorial / training feature that explains things so simply and easily that even an Xbox 360 fan could understand.

It is true that FIFA 08 on the Wii does not include a manager mode. The reason is quite simply that this game is meant to be PLAYED. The Wii has established itself as the ultimate party console, and now FIFA 08 is the ultimate footy arcade game. There are a number of highly sophisticated manager sims out there. This game is for those of us who want to dive on to the pitch and hear the roar of the crowd instead of sit in a boardroom and count our pounds or euros.

My 11 and 6 year old both love this game. We had the old one but it kept closing down on the computer. This one doesn't have that problem. They just love having a major league player on the team as well. Keeps them happy and busy, so I have to limit their time playing.

Having played this series since the end of the previous century, this version is the best yet. For long time fans, there have been plenty of tweaks and additions to make the game that much more addictive and consuming. For virtual newbies, the game may at first seem daunting in its complexity. Fear not, SI has your back. This year they've included a tutorial to help get your feet wet. They also got a new assistant function that will give you context sensitive suggestions. Once you've got your bearing, it becomes a bit like the Microsoft Office Paper Clip. Fortunately, it's a feature easily turned off.

In general, the game play is fantastic. All the aspects of an international career in management are present. You've got your first team, your reserve squad and a youth set-up. You train your players to keep them fit and make them better. You design your tactics the way YOU want your team to play. Then you set them loose on game day to watch them ignore your best laid plans and get trounced.

PES 2008 is long awaited in North America, but now that it's here we can enjoy the finest edition of this long running series on PS2. Everything that was in PES 6 is still here plus the addition of new community and world tour modes. The network service is up and running (since 03/13/08) and it's very easy to find a game against an online opponent, and as long as you pay attention to the connection quality (and only play opponents with 2 bars or more) then it will be very smooth and enjoyable. So in summary, despite the next-gen systems having better graphics, the PS2 game is the better overall experience hands down.

This game is truly revolutionary. I am a football nut and watch the games on Setanta all week long. The Wii interface is a dream come true. You can control players off the ball with ease, and strategically control a match. Passing all over the field is as easy as pointing the cursor on-screen. Defending is much more about controlling the gaps, and man-marking rather than button-smashing. Corners and set pieces are brilliant as you send players on runs to draw away defenders and then sneak in a fullback at the last moment for a free header.

Seriously, this game is the best thing to happen to football games in a long time. Fifa/W11 are just graphical improvements one year over next ad nauseum. They can't touch the change in gameplay that we have here in the Wii version.

This is a thoroughly enjoyable video game, and the Manager's Mode, which I'll be reviewing, is even more addictive (and time-consuming, but in a good way). This game features more than 15,000 players in 30 officially licensed leagues around the world. The manager mode allows the player to take over a club and guide its fortunes on and off the pitch to almost the tiniest details. You have to worry about training your players, keeping them fit, and ensuring that you have sufficient success to meet the board's expectations or else you'll get the boot. The best thing I like about this particular game mode is the ability to scout for new young talent or develop it in your own youth academy and then put them on the pitch to see if they can play with the big boys. I highly recommend this game to anyone who really enjoys soccer as it'll provide hours and hours of entertaining fun.

I only have two problems with this game; the graphics could have been just a bit cleaner considering it's on a next gen console, and the environments are a little strange looking. Other than that, Physics on drifting and driving are not too toyish and not too sim, good balance. And I'm so glad I get to mod an S14 with name brands like JIC Magic, Tomei and C-West.
I love it, and I can't wait for NFS:Pro Street to come out so I can go even crazier, and eventually have no life.

Rainbow Studio's Mx Vs ATV series has never been about simulation-style racing. If that is what you are looking for here, you are out of luck and will be disapointed. The graphics are not the best buy the gameplay is solid. Controls work well and the fun-level is through the roof. If I had to pick some things to complain about in the gameplay it is the fact that Rainbow added "realism" to the game when it comes to the motorcycles. No longer can you make the huge jump and then stick the landing. 99% of the time you will crash and burn. Yet I can still land jumps with my bars turned and only holding on with one hand. Doesn't make sense, this series has always been about arcade-style racing. Also, the track boundries are questionable at best. In one part of a track if you leave the boundry you reset, yet in other portions you can glitch through no problem. It should be uniform.

Either way, this game is fun to play either alone or with friends. If you want a realistic racer I suggest you wait for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue or buy Dirt. MotorStorm is another decent option to pick up. If you are still unsure download the Mx Vs ATV demo via PlayStation Network Store or rent Mx Vs ATV first.

I am reviewing this because of the many unfair negative reviews that I have read. The game graphics are superb. My TV is High Definition and running the games in 1080i (Maximum resolution of my TV), the game graphics are unbelievable.

The game play is also superb. The game is not easy, I would say that it is medium in difficulty. The cornerstone of the game is drifting the car and being able to control the car drifting in corners at very high speeds. You win races, get credit and new equipment and then buy more equipment and so on. It takes a few hours to really master drifting properly. AND then the fun begins.

Once you mastered the game and won the huge amounts of single player games on the games itself, you can then compete online. There are many wonderful tracks with immaculate scenery. The games allows you to play any of those, with any of the huge number of cars that you have, in normal or reverse directions. The possible iterations are endless.

Another impressive thing about the game is the handling of the cars. Each car feels different and handles differently. The upgrades to each of the cars changes the experience entirely. To-Date, this is the best Game I have on the PS3, and I find myself playing for hours. Very Challenging in parts, and really fun.

Full Auto 2 Battlelines for the PS3 provides fantastic racing / car destruction gameplay that has great graphics and very fun gameplay.

First, the setup. It is a rough and dirty future where a street gang sporting fast cars has taken over the streets, making the average citizen afraid to venture outdoors. A sentient computer system is trying to save the city, and wants you to infiltrate this gang to take it down. So you are street racing with machine guns and bombs in order to save the world :)

The game tosses you right into the fun with a triple mission of infiltration. You get races and kill-the-other deathmatches. Where it might be rough in other games to get thrown into the action, it's actually really fun here. You blast away with your machine guns, zoom around corners, and discover the secret paths to make your laps go more quickly. The basic objectives are relatively simple to hit, but you get encouraged to try again for the secondary objectives to get skins. I like that they tell you up front what you'll win if you hit your marks.

The graphics are very well done. The cities are gritty, with run down alleys and broken down storefronts. It's a lot of fun to blast away at the other cars, watching pieces fly and the environment destruct. You can cause many things to happen by destroying your world - buildings fall doesn on rival cars, new pathways open.

There isn't much to say here about sound. There's the sound of squealing tires, explosions and blasting weapons. Your computer friend has the calm, even voice that prods you onward in your quest. The music soundtrack is sort of a low key urban rhythm that is very unobtrusive and doesn't distract you when you are trying to juggle the 7 cars bearing down on you.

This isn't a simple Mario Kart style of game. You really are tested in your skills. There are multiple paths, multiple enemies, multiple styles of cars, weapons, defenses and skills. As you go through the game you unlock a large number of options, and it comes down to your particular style of gameplay as to which works best for you. Some people are snipers, some are in-your-face blasters. The cars I customize will vary greatly from those my friends create, and each one works wonderfully for the way we play.

This is also what makes the game shine in multiplay. You have to think creatively about how to defend yourself against a given car with its weapons configuration, and how to best attack them. Multiply this by multiple opponents and you can see how this becomes a game requiring both fast fingers and an agile brain.

Even the cut scenes and config screens have much better graphics than previous games. They put work into each and every aspect here.

There are only minor complaints - if you change your controller config, it still prods you to do the "standard" button presses in the game. Also, I still find the zoom in after a kill to be annoying and unnecessary.

Highly recommended!

I've had this game for about a month now. I haven't played it all the way through, but I've had a good time with the races I've done. Basically, the game has a story mode where you play as Lightning McQueen (it's set in the time period after the movie) and you engage in various races for different reasons. You drive around the town and area of Radiator Springs and as you go you find places that have races for you to do.

The bottom line here are the races. I've played a lot of racing games from Gran Turismo to Need for Speed and I actually found this to be challenging. If fact, I was pretty angry at first that I didn't immediately start beating this "kid's game!" Of course, I started off in the "Champion Mode" because it was a "kid's game." But, once I learned the race course, I was able to place first. (I know, you're really impressed.)

My daughter is almost five and she likes the game but is just a bit too young to really be able to play. So, she gets frustrated. But, she still likes trying to play it. The kids love the Pixar characters so that's fun.

The game has a lot to recommend. The racing is fun. The graphics are really great, very sharp and clean. There are cute things like the cars talk to each other when they're racing, like taunting each other as they pass. Mater is fun to drive (in arcade mode, for example) because his tow cable whips around when he catches air as if it were a tail (remaining true to the movie, too, if I remember correctly).

So, it's a fun game. Play it with your kids. Unlike many games based on movies it appears that they were actually interested in making a good racing game for young ones instead of simply cashing in on the name-recognition.
